10 Cottagecore Bedroom Decor Ideas

I absolutely love a cottagecore aesthetic, and let me tell you exactly why you should too. Yes, it is trending, but in reality, it is totally timeless. Cottagecore is based on nostalgia and simple living, which is certainly not a trend; it’s what we all yearn for.

A cottagecore bedroom is about having the simple essentials and elevating them with little accents inspired by nature, rural living, vintage finds, and the list goes on. In this guide, you will find the perfect pieces that will help you live out your true grandma style, woodland elf, whimsical fairy life.

1. Dried Flowers

With nature being the main theme of the cottagecore vibe, it’s important to add a little flower to your life. Especially since they don’t bloom all year round, it’s important to add the everlasting ones where you can. There are lots of ways to do this, but my favourite is by adding dried flowers to my space. They bring the energy of the outdoors, but last a lifetime, and always look as good as when you first get them, unlike a fresh bunch. You can either hang them on your wall to fill the blank space, or in a little cute vase on your dressing table or nightstand. Either works and looks gorgeous.

2. Floral Wallpaper

If you’re more of a maximalist, you can add the floral accents directly onto your walls with a floral wallpaper. This wallpaper adds a pop of colour to your room without being too much. It’s also so easy to apply. I don’t enjoy DIY too much, and even I can do it. Plus, it will truly make you feel like a little woodland animal right in the comfort of your own home.

3. Artificial Plants

In the same vein as your floral vibe, you can really tap into the nature feel with some fake plants. Plants aren’t always the easiest things to keep alive, especially when you have to find the right spot with the right amount of sunlight, but not too direct, it’s quite a mission, really. Fake plants can brighten up a room, bringing some “life” to your space, especially in rooms that don’t get much sunlight. They’re zero-maintenance and pet-friendly, so you don’t have to worry about anything in that respect.

4. Gingham

Checks, gingham, patchwork, crochet, all these types of prints and patterns are perfect for expressing your inner grandma. I have been absolutely longing for the Piglet in Bed bedding set, but it is a little out of my budget. However, I found the perfect budget-friendly set on Amazon for less than £30. I had to instantly add it to my basket, I’ve never seen anything so soft and wonderfully rustic in my life. Instant must-have.

5. Embroidery

Matching that sort of vintagey feel is anything embroidery. If you’re up for learning a new skill, this one is probably more on the beginner end of whimsical hobbies, and you can add it to literally anything, like cushions, blankets, or even your clothes if you like to show off your skills. Or, again if you’re anything like me and don’t fancy the DIY, just get something pre-embroidered. You don’t have to tell anyone it wasn’t you!

6. Doily

This one is a little harder on the skill level of whimsical hobbies, so I would recommend just buying a doily, or maybe raiding granny’s cupboard for some true vintage ones. They’re simple little accents you can just add over your nightstand, or use the smaller ones as coasters.

7. Mushrooms

Whimsical, natural, and the poster girl of cottagecore. A revival of the 70s mushroom trend is back, and they are such a magical and charming addition to the cottagecore trend. Create some mood lighting with some adorable mushroom string lights, or make a statement with a cool, retro-inspired mushroom lamp. Lighting is so important for a cozy vibe, creating a warm and welcoming environment, but when you add mushrooms to the mix, it’s even more calming. Take it a step further and go foraging yourself (with professional guidance, of course) and add some hand-picked shrooms to the meals you cook. It’s not just about the aesthetic, but the lifestyle you have with it.

8. Macrame

I find decorating my walls so hard, when there is much blank space and only so many pictures and paintings you can put up. Have a look at adding some macrame decorations to your wall, something a little different and that matches the cottagecore vibe perfectly. This is another thing you can test your DIY skills with, and it doesn’t matter if it looks a little messy, as cottagecore isn’t about being pristine.

9. A Quilt

Now we’re onto the motherhood of making a cozy home, and tapping into the grandma, vintage vibe of this aesthetic. A wonderfully whimsical patchwork quilt is a need for your bedroom, adding a rich, moody vibe to your room without compromising on comfort.

10. Knitted Blankets

Finally, a knitted blanket. An essential in my opinion. Not as heavy as a quilt, but so so cozy, you’ll never want to leave your bed once you’re all wrapped up in it. I think when it comes to blankets, the more the merrier. Layer them on your sofa, on your bed, mix and match with colours and patterns. Personally, my home just doesn’t feel cozy without a blanket on every bit of furniture.

After compiling this list of cottagecore essentials, I’m noticing a key theme of nostalgic DIY, where rustic, handmade pieces are what really make your house a whimsical home. From the dried flowers and mushrooms to the macrame and embroidery, these are all things you can turn into your everyday hobbies. Take time to elevate your cozy home, and take time for yourself while you practise each skill. Add a little baking and knitting into the mix, and your inner grandma will be living her dream.
